Oppression

At its core, ecofeminism argues that the oppression of women and environmental degradation are related outcomes of patriarchal and capitalist systems. This storyline cannot be presented authentically without acknowledging the voices and experiences of those most profoundly affected: women from the Global South.

While feminism has often been examined from a Eurocentric and Western perspective, ecofeminism demands a different approach. It insists that the narrative must be shaped and articulated by the women who bear its consequences most. In this context, we find a compelling need to amplify the voices and stories of those living in the Global South – an essential contribution to a better understanding of ecofeminism and its profound global impact.

Dynamics

Bar Bario has chosen six artists who share different perspectives on feminism. The dynamics of different backgrounds, attitudes, and art expressions come together in a fascinating and committed exhibition.

This evening's program is supplemented with a music program by the Rotterdam collective Ampfeminine and an art market by Viva La Vulva!

Bar Bario is a safer space, creative hub and bar in Amsterdam West. Opened in 2021, they focus on exhibits, events and creating space for the Queer and Trans community, as well as the community of Color.
