New Exhibition: Technium
The latest game, our clothing, the bicycle, train, or tram that takes us from A to B… Everything around us made by humans is technology. It's so commonplace that we almost don't notice it anymore. But how does a bike actually move? What does it take to sustainably produce t-shirts? What technological developments are hidden in your smartphone? Discover all this in the new family exhibition Technium on the completely renovated second floor of NEMO.
Summer Rooftop
In the summer, there's plenty to do on the rooftop terrace of NEMO. Enjoy the summer vibes, music, a bite, a drink, and the best view of Amsterdam on the NEMO Summer Rooftop. Every Thursday evening there is live music; the full program will be announced soon.
Natural Inventors
Many plants and animals have developed unique qualities and clever tricks through millions of years of evolution. Researchers and designers are often inspired by nature to make inventions or solve problems. Discover in the interactive exhibit Natural Inventors which inventions are inspired by which animal or plant.
Creating Patterns
In nature, you can find all sorts of patterns. The stripes of a zebra, the honeycomb of a bee, or the veins of leaves. Get to work with cubes, tiles, circles, and dots, and puzzle your own pattern together! Or play Palago, a strategic game where you must defeat the other by being the first to lay a flowing pattern.
Race with a Wooden Figure
Choose a wooden figure and let it run down a slope. Gravity and balance make the figure swing down. What makes it faster or slower? How do you get your figure down the slope the fastest?
Experiment with Sound Effects
Everyday objects are used in films and TV series to mimic many natural sounds. At NEMO, you can make sounds yourself with everyday items to accompany a short film. For example, a flying bird sounds just like... flapping gloves!
Chemistry Experiments
In NEMO's Laboratory, you become a scientist for a while. Put on a lab coat and safety glasses, and get to work! With everyday items, you conduct special experiments and tests. Here you learn how a rocket works, or how to get sparkling white laundry. Want to do an experiment in the Lab? That is possible if you are 6 years or older.
Chain Reaction
What do a moving office chair, popping balloons, and falling bricks have in common? Discover this in a spectacular chain reaction full of energy. Be surprised by this interactive demonstration of cause and effect.
Build Your Own Chain Reaction
A chain reaction is a series of events where each event causes the next. A very well-known example is a row of falling dominoes. And of course, the large Chain Reaction in NEMO. You can now make a chain reaction yourself.
Wonder or Science?
What happens to a balloon in liquid nitrogen? How do you make patterns with sound? Discover how amazing science is in this spectacular demonstration with ice-cold and red-hot experiments.
Science Live
Would you like to be a test subject in real scientific research? Then join Science Live. Real scientists come to NEMO because they need many test subjects of different ages and backgrounds for their research. Soon, the research taking place during the summer holidays will be announced.
Living Looonger (in De Studio at NEMO)
With your ticket for NEMO, you can visit De Studio for free, the extra location for adults at the Marineterrein in Amsterdam. Here you can visit the exhibition Living Looonger, which zooms in on questions about ageing, staying young, and mortality. Examine your biological age, experience hands-on which body parts can be replaced (in the long term), and delve into the consequences for our society.
De Studio is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 17:30. Your visit to De Studio does not have to take place on the same day as your visit to the NEMO Science Museum.
