The Silver Cup

1942 - An 11-year-old Jewish boy goes into hiding. He has to leave everything behind, including the silver cup that his German grandfather gave him after his birth to protect him.

2009 - A grandfather who knows he doesn't have much longer to live makes a book for his 2-year-old granddaughter with the story of the silver cup: to tell her about the war, the hiding, the angels who saved him, and how the cup came back to him. But most of all: to tell her how much he loves her.

With Anneke Frankenberg, violin, story, vocals, Marieke van der Heijden, cello, vocals, and text by Peer Wittenbols. Music: Béla Bartók, Franz Schubert, Władysław Lidauer, Anneke Frankenberg, folk music from Hungary, Slovakia and Russia.
