De Veenfabriek - Praise of Folly

Loosely based on Erasmus' satirical hymn from 1511, the Veenfabriek creates a mess of fun with 'Lof der Zotheid' on stage in Frascati to celebrate the foolishness in ourselves and others. With an installation of forty radios, the musicians of Veenfabriek are sure to amaze. They mix fragments of 16th century mischievous songs with radio fragments and sounds into a tight composition with percussion, trombone, viola, guitar and vocals.

Praise of Folly

The Goddess of Folly is back on earth to blow her own trumpet. Together with her followers, she shares nonsensical truths and genuine nonsense. They tear apart the rigid frameworks, flip middle fingers at raised little fingers and bite the tongues of know-it-alls.

Where Erasmus in the 16th century mocked all ranks and classes of his time, Veenfabriek makes fun of groups of self-proclaimed equalists in ours. Because hypocrisy and self-deception are timeless. And even now we take ourselves too seriously and forget to laugh at the absurdity of life. It is high time for some satirical spanking. And fortunately, irony is increasingly understood...
