The importance of future thinking

Today's society is changing rapidly and profoundly. Exploring what the future might look like is more urgent than ever. Designers can – or perhaps: must – play a crucial role in this 'future thinking'. But how? Climate, digitalisation and inequality are the three major challenges for the future. We cannot leave these to politicians and policymakers alone. The entire society must be involved in thinking about how we want to live, work, eat and live together. Imagination, creativity and empathy are indispensable in this. What role can designers play in this future thinking? And how can an alternative be formulated for the dominant Western perspective?
