Choreographies
The company will perform the virtuosic Daily Hero by Regina van Berkel for the first time. Following this is a choreographic gem: SH-BOOM! by the renowned duo Sol Len and Paul Lightfoot. Inbal Pinto will present the Dutch premiere of the refined, melancholic Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Special guest dancers from Iungo, choreographed by Adriaan Luteijn of Introdans, will also take the stage.
"All in all, a very diverse programme with ballets ranging in style from extremely virtuosic and acrobatic to lyrical and poetic," says artistic director Roel Voorintholt.
Regina van Berkel (Introdans premiere) – Daily Hero
In Daily Hero (2013), various heroes parade past a towering golden gate as if walking a high-fashion runway. Mozart, Marilyn Monroe, pop stars, or the next undiscovered superstar? You are free to let your imagination run wild. Regina van Berkel explores the concept of heroism in this dynamic, contemporary choreography. What makes someone a hero? Is heroism something you acquire, a vision to strive for, or is it simply innate?
Sol León and Paul Lightfoot – SH-BOOM!
SH-BOOM! (1994) is one of the earliest works by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, formerly of Nederlands Dans Theater. They drew inspiration from the satirical black-and-white drawings of the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya. As they later did so masterfully in their body of work, they already managed to combine life's darker (ironic) and lighter (humorous) sides in this early piece. Set to popular songs from the 1930s and 1940s, SH-BOOM! whisks you away to a theatrical hall of mirrors, where the women dance in flowing dresses, and the men, quite literally, stand in their underwear.
Inbal Pinto (Introdans premiere) – Boulevard of Broken Dreams
For Heroes, choreographer Inbal Pinto creates a new version of her highly praised work, Fugue (2018), titled Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Reflecting on old lives, past worlds, lost loved ones, and memories that echo like a distant inner voice, Pinto paints a broad palette of emotions in this melancholic and warm-blooded choreography. While humour is always a subtle component of her work, Pinto's distinctive creations are, above all, poetic and often enigmatic.
Adriaan Luteijn and Guests (world premiere) – Iungo – The Encounter 2024
‘Iungo’ is the Latin word for I bring together/I connect’, which perfectly describes what Introdans choreographer Adriaan Luteijn excels at. In his series The Encounter, of which Iungo is a part, he has spent over twenty years bringing people of different physical, social, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds together to show that dance is for everyone. Luteijn demonstrates that dancers who do not fit the standard image can deeply move and astonish their audience. In this new edition of Iungo created for Heroes (after previous versions in Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, and South Africa), four Introdans dancers meet several guest dancers, each excelling in their own way. Iungo features an inclusive cast, including guest dancer and BNNVARA presenter Eva Eikhout.
