Merel Severs - Coerced & Freely Given
Merel Severs returns to her self-built arena, where dance and martial arts once again come together in a battle for radical softness. A production by Merel Severs / Theater a/d Rijn, Stichting Severs & De Coproducers
Merel Severs - Coerced & Freely Given
Exploring physical exertion and gentle connection
After her acclaimed performance Try not to know what you know, Merel delves deeper into the complex relationship between pleasure, violence, exhaustion and resilience in Coerced & Freely Given with her unique characteristic energy. This time she shares the arena with performers Matilde Tommasini (nominated for De Zwaan 2024) and Princess Isatu Hassan Bangura (winner Theo d'Or 2024).
Challenging existing capitalist and patriarchal systems, the trio explores a world of intense physical exertion and gentle connection. As raw blows turn into tender embraces, the performers transform the stage into an evocative landscape of possibilities.
