How do you keep (revolutionary) secrets?

When you bury something, you hope that someone else will discover it and give it a new purpose. Someone who will return to that specific place, uncover what has been protected and reconnect with what has been left behind. How do you preserve (revolutionary) secrets? Is the archive a place to hide and shelter, or is it a place to record? In what kind of archives can counter-archives grow?

Lara and Francisca will read excerpts from the collective’s publication To See the Inability to See and tell stories and anecdotes about buried objects in Palestine. They will also screen Francisca Khamis Giacoman’s video essay 31°42’49.5���N, about the inaccessible family home in the Almakhrour neighbourhood of Bethlehem. They will exchange thoughts on land as a site of archiving and home as a site of memory.

Bring an object

Bring an object that you would like to bury in Palestine, something that belongs to a secret, to a potential of liberation and return. We will create an archive together and bury it in the coming months as an extension of the Appel archive.

Francisca Khamis Giacoman is a Chilean artist from the Palestinian diaspora, currently based in Amsterdam. Through performances, installations and audiovisual works, she attempts to evoke narratives of migration and unfold them at the intersection of fiction and materiality.
