Space for Dance Art presents: New Adventures #2

In conversation with the makers

During the residencies, the makers get to know each other better by sharing their vision and working methods, including through the 'Movement Practice Dialogues' and studio visits. This results in a fruitful cross-pollination and mutual learning environment between the makers. At the end of the residency, the result is shown in a double bill and the audience gets the chance to talk to the makers. This time presented in Theatre Studio Artist Space in Amsterdam Oud-West.

David Feenstra

In New Adventures #2, David’s main questions of inquiry are: What do people do with randomness, and how does the random, irregular, and illogical reality of everyday life affect your path to a specific goal? David asks what it means to look at the vast landscape of possibilities around us and realize that the edges of that landscape are dictated by utter randomness, meaninglessness. Or are they?

During his residency in November 2024 at ICK Dans Amsterdam, David will continue his research into the use of randomness in dance. He aims to further use and develop his methods of generating random movements, to let human intuition speak within improvisation-based scores.

Niek Wagenaar

Within the context of New Adventures, Niek explores the physical language for his new performance Sabbath , in which 3 dancers come together for a witches' sabbath. In his research, he draws a parallel between witchcraft and the queer community, and attempts to redefine the conventional image of queers and witches from a more inclusive lens.

In the residency at ICK in November 2024, he will focus on developing and specifying the dance vocabulary for the performance, and investigate how choices in that language can influence the spectator's experience to transform initial negative perceptions of witches and outsiders into positive feelings of inclusivity and belonging.
