Write for Rights is Amnesty's largest letter writing campaign. People around the world are writing letters for 9 people who are wrongfully imprisoned or are facing discrimination. You can also write in Amsterdam. Be inspired by live interviews with human rights defenders, short films and (live) music. Location: Amnesty International Nederland, Keizersgracht 177, Amsterdam

This year, Amnesty International is taking action for 9 people during Write for Rights.

  • Neth Nahara from Angola criticized the president on TikTok and was arrested the next day.
  • Joel Paredes from Argentina was blinded by a police bullet during a peaceful protest.
  • Dang Dinh Bach from Vietnam took action as a lawyer against environmental pollution by the government and companies and was therefore arrested.
  • Kyong Seok Park from South Korea fights for the rights of people with physical disabilities.
  • Manahel al-Otaibi from Saudi Arabia is in jail for speaking out about women's rights online.
  • Maryia Kalesnikava stood up to the oppressive Belarusian government and is now in prison.
  • Oqba Hashad from Egypt has been in pre-trial detention for 5 years because of his brother's human rights activism.
  • Åžebnem Korur Fincanci from Turkey has been convicted for her human rights work.
  • The Wet'suwet'en Nation Land Defenders of Canada have been charged for protecting their ancestral lands from pipeline construction.
