Funding to strengthen Amsterdam’s tech ecosystem
Databricks, the US-based software company and research partner of Amsterdam’s Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has raised $10 billion in one of the largest private funding rounds ever, bringing its valuation to $62 billion. Known for its innovative data management and analytics software, Databricks is pivotal in advancing artificial intelligence solutions globally.
Databricks’ largest R&D (research and development) hub outside the United States is located in Amsterdam, employing around 280 people. The office’s origins trace back to early collaborations with CWI, including contributions from developers formerly associated with CWI spin-off Vectorwise. Today, the Amsterdam team is central to the company’s global research and development efforts.

As Databricks continues its remarkable growth, its strong presence in Amsterdam highlights the city’s importance in artificial intelligence, data science, and software development.
