LeapSprong Amsterdam programme launched for European startups
Actioning the energy system transition
The LeapSprong Amsterdam program, initiated by the Amsterdam Municipality in collaboration with the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA) and Rockstart, has just launched. Targeting European startups and scale-ups, the programme aims to revolutionise urban circularity and sustainable energy for businesses working on up-cycling waste, converting carbon dioxide, and reducing carbon emissions.
With Amsterdam’s plans to become a fully circular city by 2050, this programme is designed for Europe based start-ups and scale-ups that can revolutionise the way that we approach circularity and have an innovative approach when it comes to what our energy sources look like in the future.
What are the focus areas?
LeapSprong Amsterdam is particularly looking for startups and scale-ups that are focusing on one or more of these themes:
- Utilisation and up-cycling of waste and by-products, especially recyclable plastics and organic waste streams from the food and feed industry.
- Using and converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into new chemicals and fuels and designing industrial production plants.
- Helping to reduce carbon emissions in the energy sector with smart energy management, strategies to cut emissions, and providing financing.
Growing a better startup ecosystem in Amsterdam
For chosen companies, the programme offers the chance to access various funding opportunities to finance their growth. They also gain access to the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam, to develop and refine their technologies in a real-life setting.
Another key feature of the programme is its networking potential. Young companies can connect with a range of experts and similar businesses within the startup and scale-up ecosystem. With the Netherlands having recently been ranked #13 among the world’s best performing startup ecosystems and clean-tech pioneers like Metabolic and Flexidao already based in Amsterdam, the LeapSprong project showcases the city’s dedication in backing the success of young businesses with an eye towards a more resilient energy future.
Applications are open until June 17 - with the project kicking off in late September with its chosen participants. If you’re interested in applying, you can do so here.
