Watermeln secures over €3.5M to lead hydrogen generator market
Funding to lead the global shift towards renewable energy
Watermeln, the Amsterdam-based innovator in green hydrogen fuel cell technology, has successfully raised over €3.5 million in its latest investment round. Key contributors to this funding round include the Amsterdam Climate and Energy Fund (AKEF) and BEEQUIP, both of which recognise the strategic importance of Watermeln’s technology in advancing the energy transition.
The Dutch startup specialises in the development and rental of hydrogen fuel cell generators. Providing sustainable power solutions for locations lacking reliable grid connections, such as festivals, construction sites, and charging stations.
Watermeln will use the investment to expand its hydrogen generator fleet from 3 to 13 units, building on last year's €1.5 million raise. The company is also developing new products to serve a broader customer base. Having gained traction in off-grid power solutions, Watermeln sees further opportunities for innovation and market growth, positioning itself to become a leader in the hydrogen generator industry.
A growing energy landscape in Amsterdam
The Dutch government has recently allocated €148 million to support cleantech companies in advancing renewable energy technologies, including solar panels, energy storage batteries, and electrolysers for hydrogen production. This investment aligns with Amsterdam’s broader efforts to lead the energy transition.
Watermeln, expanding its hydrogen generator technology, contributes to these efforts alongside partners like Greener Power Solutions, which specialises in mobile batteries and integrates these batteries with Watermeln’s mobile hydrogen technology. Other notable energy startups include Brineworks, working with ocean-based CO2 removal through electrochemistry, and Spectral, which focuses on smart energy solutions, such as energy management, analytics, storage, and grids.
As Watermeln expands its operations, it demonstrates its readiness to innovate renewable energy technology and advance sustainable energy adoption in Amsterdam and beyond.
