Amsterdam's Seenons expands to Switzerland to improve circular waste management
Transforming trash
Founded in 2019 – Seenons is the only independent platform in Europe that is dedicated to reducing waste through smarter management. Their digital platform acts as a matchmaker between businesses and waste collectors – optimising waste collection while promoting recycling and reuse of materials.
Recently, the Amsterdam company announced its entering the Swiss market through the acquisition of CP Recycling Management. This partnership leverages the strengths of both companies to enhance waste stream management and drive circularity in Switzerland to new heights.
Why is a platform like Seenons important? In the Netherlands alone, 60 million metric tonnes of waste are collected annually, with the largest contributor being the construction and demolition sector. Waste production plays a significant role in climate change, with landfills releasing the greenhouse gas methane which is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
With sustainability initiatives becoming a growing priority for businesses across different sectors – Seenon’s platform allows businesses to schedule waste pickups, track waste streams and find sustainable solutions for recycling a multitude of different waste types. By giving businesses a direct link to waste collectors, Seenons aims to foster a circular economy and contribute to a healthier planet.
Taking their tech platform cross-country
Switzerland faces a multitude of challenges in waste management, including high recycling and processing costs, difficulties in sorting and recovering high quality materials, and limited scalability in circular initiatives. Through their acquisition of CP Management, a leader in the Swiss waste market, their partnership positions them to better deliver a better service to their customers. Christian Piller, founder of CP Recycling Management, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating: "With Seenons by our side, we can support our customers even better. We now have access to innovative technology and a broader network while preserving the DNA of our family business."
Similar to the Netherlands, Switzerland has been a leader in environmental initiatives – coming out in number one place for the highest recycling rates in the world. By joining forces with CP Management, Seenons is in the best position to contribute to Swizterland’s journey towards a more circular and sustainable waste system.
How Amsterdam is rethinking rubbish
Seenons isn’t alone when it comes to Amsterdam-based companies tackling waste – the city is home to a network of several innovative companies that are inventing tech to address the climate crisis. Harvest Waste’s technology was developed over a century ago and transforms landfills into sources of clean energy all while creating jobs and fostering healthy communities.
Additionally CocoPallet produces biodegradable pallets made from coconut waste, a sustainable alternative to traditional wooden pallets – after their life as a pallet, they can be shredded and recycled, promoting a circular economy. With so many forward-thinking companies basing themselves in Amsterdam, the city is ideal grounds to nurture waste management innovation.
