Maria Blaisse
Maria Blaisse (1944) has been working with the Torus (a rubber inner tube) from her design studio in Amsterdam for more than 45 years on a permanent form research that develops very consistently and trans-disciplinary. For her, her research is both an energetic field and a material form, bringing together form and movement; the origin and connector of all other forms that arise in her work, and also the catalyst for collaborations worldwide with musicians, composers, dancers, architects, scientists and engineers, among others.
She received several nominations for her work and the Emmy van Leersum oeuvre prize.
On August 18 there will be various improvisations with music and dancers with bamboo structures that change shape.
Kate Moore, artist-in-residence 2024
Every summer, Plein Theater invites an artist-in-residence, an artist who is given the opportunity for a number of weeks to further develop a performance and involve local residents and interested parties in the creative process. We are extremely excited to welcome composer Kate Moore as the 2024 artist-in-residence!
Kate Moore also lives in Amsterdam East and is not just a composer; she has earned international recognition and her works are performed by leading ensembles. She has won several prizes, including the Gieskes-Strijbus Podium Prize in 2022 and the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulen Prize in 2017. She has also founded her own ensemble, the Herz Ensemble!
Kate's working method as a composer and Maria's as a designer have similarities. There is also an interactive presentation with a film about working with the torus.
Ox song
From Monday August 12 to Sunday September 1, composer Kate Moore will work in her residence on the Ossenlied as part of the A Beautiful Path research project.
The Ossenlied will be a 54-day walk through the Netherlands, England, Wales and Ireland from Oss to Skellig Michael via Oxford to compose an epic story cycle to music, while carrying a lyre and a veldle.
With her research, the composer challenges herself to explore the creative process through writing, composing, improvising and documenting in dialogue with nature and the environment, while walking long-distance routes with musical instruments.
