Africa Negra

For 40 years, África Negra has been the musical scepter of São Tomé and Príncipe, an archipelago off the west coast of Central Africa. They are famous in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau and other Portuguese-speaking regions of the world. The band is especially loved for their inimitable style in which they combine a very mild São Toméan rumba or soukous with highlife elements. Their sound was symbolic of the first years of independence.
