Alexander Malofeev
He is one of the youngest exponents of the famous Russian piano school: Alexander Malofeev, born in 2001. Not only is Malofeev a technically gifted pianist, he is above all a musician who knows how to put a profound expressive power in his playing. In this recital he plays imaginative romantic pieces by his compatriots Sergei Rachmaninov and Aleksandr Scriabin, in addition to work by Franz Schubert and Frédéric Chopin.
Malofeev, who has publicly spoken out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, won the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, held at the Moscow Conservatory, in 2014 as a thirteen-year-old. It was there that Scriabin composed his Fantaisie op. 28 , a turbulent and eventful work that clearly points in the direction of his late style. Schubert's Three Klavierstcke are a model of balance in comparison. Chopin wrote the Grande polonaise brillante for orchestra and piano and later added a dreamy Andante spianato at the beginning.
