Master sitarist, film composer, passionate activist, genre-transcending artist in music from then and now, acoustic and electric: Anoushka Shankar is it all. She grew up in a house that was always filled with music. In the home of her father Pandit Ravi Shankar - a musician without whom twentieth-century music would simply not have been what it became - musicians were always present: learning, rehearsing, improvising, or simply playing musical games at the dining table. At the age of nine, Anoushka picked up the sitar - and Indian classical music - intensively guided by her father. During her teenage years she toured the world with her father. And in the meantime developed her own musical world. In which she finds parallels between the meditative, introspective qualities of Indian classical music and the ecstatic discharge of the dance floor: she uses different colors to paint the same picture.

Now Anoushka Shankar is coming to Europe with a new quintet. A quintet with a new, versatile and dynamic sound. And perhaps the best quintet she has ever played with. They perform music from her recently released mini-album, alongside thoroughly shaken gems from previous albums, including last year's Grammy-nominated live album Between Us...
