Afrogrooves
Afrogrooves is a tight-knit family of musicians from around the world, based in Amsterdam, with a shared love for afrobeat. This collective is a melting pot, with a common passion for combining West African music with the sounds of funk, jazz, and hip hop.
Afrogrooves started in 2018 as an informal jam session. It quickly distinguished itself as one of the more unique and frequented sessions in the crowded Amsterdam scene, because of its large 8-person house band, full of tight horn lines and heavy percussion breaks.
Core members of the Afrogrooves collective have developed a shared repertoire of danceable, high energy hits from bands like Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70, Antibalas, and Bixiga 70, combining them with influences from Amsterdam’s diverse music scene and taking it in its own direction. They are a welcome addition to any party. They have played at festivals such as Kwaku Festival, ADE, Ruigoord Landjuweel, Hemeltjelief, Copacobana Festival (Belgium), and in venues such as de Melkweg and Pakhuis de Zwijger. They have also performed in collaboration with world-renowned guest artists such as Moussa Cissokho, Kiala Nzavotunga, and Lowkey.
