Artistic research project

The concert program was developed during the artistic research project Making Time Together. Collective Experiences of Time in Continuous Ensemble Practice that they performed during the residency at Studio LOOS in The Hague in February-May 2023.

What is the research about?

Building on the results of that residency, the artist's collaboration explores the temporality that emerges in the resonances between different spaces and how one listens to them. The piece that will be presented focuses on spatial, temporal and interrelational aspects. Developing an intuition for interacting with the resonances between different spaces – strings, instrument bodies, resonating objects, the space in which the piece is played – concerning how this affects our experience of time is at the heart of Danya's artistic practice.

Danya Pilchen

Danya Pilchen's music is closely intertwined with his research into collective experiences of time in musical practices. Understanding time as an emergent property of consciousness influenced by social interactions calls for greater attention to the relationships between musicians and audiences in his pieces. To facilitate these interactions, he uses various compositional strategies and listening techniques that speak to the materiality of sound.

Kali

Kali is a new music ensemble based in The Hague. "We work primarily with young composers with whom we can collaborate and experiment long-term. We strive to develop an artistic practice unique to our relationship with our collaborators. In recent years, we have built close and active relationships with several young composers in The Hague, and we have become experts in performing their music, realizing many large-scale projects with great attention to detail."
