Conservatorium van Amsterdam Symfonieorkest - Mahlers Vierde Symfonie
Mahler's Fourth Symphony takes the listener to heaven. Mahler used his song Das himmlische Leben as the basis for this symphony. In the fourth movement, a soprano, alternating with playful orchestral passages, sounds the pleasures that await the inhabitants of the afterlife. In this performance, the symphony orchestra of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam is conducted by the internationally acclaimed conductor Jun Märkl.

Mahler's Heaven and Von Weber's Devil
The concert begins darkly, however: the overture from Weber's opera Der Freischütz is the prelude to a story in which a hunter makes a pact with the devil. Things get even darker in Lontano (Italian for 'far away') by György Ligeti. With his characteristic style of overlapping musical lines, Ligeti creates a subtle, unearthly soundscape with eerily suspenseful moments.
