Florian Boesch & Malcolm Martineau - Schumanns Liederkreis
Florian Boesch and Malcolm Martineau perform Schumann's Liederkreis – a flexible baritone sound with the support of all the timbres a good piano player can bring out of the instrument. The musicians will also perform works by Brahms and Schoek in addition to the Schumann on 13 February in The Concertgebouw.

Florian Boesch & Malcolm Martineau
The psychological acuity and powerful lyricism of baritone Florian Boesch are constantly praised in the press. Together with his musical partner, the pianist Malcolm Martineau, he provides an intense listening experience time and time again. Recently, their achievement was described as a collaboration of musicians at the peak of their powers. In this concert, they demonstrate this in their romantic repertoire.
Schumann's Liederkreis
Brahms and Schumann were good friends; Brahms also loved Clara Schumann - platonically - very much. Despite all their differences, both composers had an infallible feeling for the relationship between word and sound. Schumann notes in his Liederkreis. 39 forest walks to music, today's musicians have recorded the cycle on CD. The lieder tradition lasted well into late Romanticism; the Swiss Othmar Schoeck wrote more than three hundred for his soprano wife.
