Hannes Minnaar - Brahms' Pianoconcert nr. 2
Brahms' Second Piano Concerto is grand, compelling, grandiose. A lesser pianist can sometimes lose himself in this, but by careful dosing Hannes Minnaar tames the musical eddies of Brahms. Hannes Minnaar performs in the Royal Concertgebouw.

Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2
In July 1881, Brahms wrote to a friend that he had composed 'a whole small keyboard concerto with a whole small zarten Scherzo'. That is typical Brahmsian banter, because his Second Piano Concerto is grand, compelling and grandiose. It is an unusual piece, he even added - unprecedented for that time - a fourth movement to the concerto. And what about the beautiful cello solo in the third movement? This Second Piano Concerto by Brahms is of unprecedented beauty and power.
Hannes Minnaar
According to Gramophone, Hannes Minnaar is 'a convincing tone painter and an ardent romantic'. This comes in handy with the romantic and colorful music of Brahms. That he is one of the best pianists in the Netherlands is evident from the fact that he won the Dutch Music Prize and was the first Dutch person in twenty years to give a concert in the Master Pianist Series in the Concertgebouw.
