Americana, roots and blues influences
Jon Allen's sound is built on a foundation of Americana, roots and blues influences, with a soulful, whiskey-soaked voice and a striking gift for melody. Allen's breakthrough came after he appeared on BBC TV's Later with Jools Holland. Since then, he has toured extensively as an opening act for an eclectic array of musical greats, from Emmylou Harris and Seal to Dionne Warrick, Mark Knopfler and Damien Rice, and has built a loyal international following. He's just as comfortable as a solo artist as he is as the frontman of The Luna Kings; a band made up of some of the best session musicians in the country. A fascinating and extremely entertaining live act.
After Allen previously sold out the Upstairs flawlessly, the musician returns to Amsterdam on 7 May for a show at the OZ!
Support act: Acantha Lang
The evening will be supported by New Orleans (London) born and Grammy-nominated soul artist Acantha Lang, who has been compared to legends Aretha Franklin & Gladys Knight. She will perform songs from her critically acclaimed debut album Beautiful Dreams, which reached number 3 in the Official UK Jazz & Blues Album Chart.
