Lecons De Tenebres

In the French Baroque period, Jeremiah's lamentations were set to music by many composers. Composer François Couperin mixed Italian and French styles in his Leçons de ténèbres to express the content of Jeremiah's texts. Between episodes he created melodies based on Hebrew letters (Aleph, beth, etc.).
