Mon Rovîa
Mon Rovîa calls the mountains of Tennessee home, but he’s had an intense journey to get there. The musician was born in civil war-torn Liberia, where he escaped life as a child soldier with the help of missionaries. He spent the next few years living in different places as he worked through his traumas, plus the sense of cultural assimilation that came with being a transracially adopted refugee. Mon’s music is a sonic fusion of these experiences, mixed with the empathy he feels for the people he meets throughout his life.
Comforting music
Mon Rovîa's experience with different cultures is reflected in his music, in which he seamlessly weaves American folk and African rhythms into a blanket of comforting music.
