Mozart vs. Chevalier de Saint-George
Performed by the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and Théotime Langlois de Swarte. The 18th-century composer, violinist and fencing champion Joseph Bologne 'Chevalier de Saint-George' was the illegitimate son of a plantation manager and an enslaved woman in Guadeloupe. At a young age he ended up in the tumultuous, revolution-laden Paris and made a name for himself in the highest circles. The 2022 film Chevalier tells his extraordinary life story. This is a great opportunity to hear his music, played by Théotime Langlois de Swarte. This young Frenchman is considered 'the great sensation of the baroque violin' (Volkskrant).
Mozart vs. Chevalier de Saint-George
Sensation of the Baroque Violin plays special violin repertoire
Théotime also solos in the first great masterpiece of Bologna's contemporary Mozart, the Third Violin Concerto . Equally beloved is Mozart's Paris Symphony, composed in Paris at the age of 22 and exceptionally for a large orchestra. Mozart uses something that was popular in Paris at the time: a large crescendo played in unison.
