MRCY consists of producer Barney Lister and vocalist Kojo Degraft-Johnson. Although they come from different corners of the UK and have different cultural backgrounds, their influences merge into a unique, warm soul sound that draws from both the richness of retro soul and the modern flair of artists such as Anderson .Paak and SAULT.

The duo found each other during the pandemic and quickly discovered a shared passion for music that transcends trends. Both were already established names in the music world; Barney is one of the UK’s most sought-after producers, having collaborated with the likes of Obongjayar, Joy Crookes and Olivia Dean. Kojo, who found his musical roots in church in South London, has previously sung with artists such as Cleo Sol and Little Simz. Together, they create a sound that feels both familiar and fresh, with deep roots in retro soul but full of fresh, contemporary energy.
