Arrangements of Gershwin's Song Book

In 'Jazzical!' the three percussionists of Amswave Trio present works by classical composers influenced by jazz: the American George Gershwin and the Soviet composer Nikolai Kapustin.

They play Gershwin's 'Song Book' with well-known jazz standards such as 'I Got Rhythm' and 'I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise', and Kapustin's Concert Etudes with various styles such as jazz, blues and boogie-woogie. The trio arranged the music themselves and will make the Tolhuistuin swing.

The Nympheas Trombone Quartet focuses on madrigals from the 15th and 16th centuries, a heyday for this genre in Italy. At the time, these pieces were often played on instruments such as the trombone, which was invented at that time.

The quartet brings this rarely played music from the heyday of the madrigal back to life with works by Adriaen Willaert, Giovanni Rovetta, Giovanni Gabrieli and Josquin Desprez, among others, in new arrangements of their own.

To top it all off, the two ensembles close the concert together, with music by none other than Maurice Ravel!
