KARA Music invites Akwasi
To conclude the opening day of the Grachtenfestival you will find a spectacular program in the Tolhuistuin club, KARA Music invites Akwasi! KARA Music is an ensemble led by Celeste Engel, in addition to classical music, she has also had a lifelong passion for other music styles and in particular hip hop. There she met like-minded people and founded KARA Music, an ensemble where diversity is of paramount importance, not only in the music they play (classical crossover), but also in the musicians themselves.
KARA Music invites Akwasi
A musical crossover between like-minded people
Akwasi actually needs no introduction. He took his first musical steps more than 15 years ago with hip-hop formation Zwart Licht. After four albums, five state awards and an Edison, his own solo career was not left behind. Akwasi made albums, wrote novels, spoke on TV shows and acted in theater performances.
And then a turning point in his career followed in 2020. His nationally widely reported lecture on Dam Square is the reason for discussions about a more diverse sound. This diverse sound took shape in the same year under the name Omroep ZWART.
Akwasi will receive a special reward for his work, the Ghanaian Embassy in the Netherlands will present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work and representing a new generation of Ghanaians in the Netherlands.
It promises to be a special collaboration and nothing less than a wonderful kick-off to the Grachtenfestival!
