Photonen zingt Shadows of Paradise
Photonen Vocaal Ensemble performs contemplative, comforting and also cheerful choral compositions from England and Scandinavia in Shadows of Paradise. The main piece is the magnificent 1932 Requiem by Herbert Howells. There will also be fine works by Parry, Tavener, Uusberg and MacMillan and beautiful, yet witty music by Grieg and Rutter. Guest conductor: Gulian van Nierop.

Death & Life
Howells wrote his beautiful Requiem in an impressionistic style, oozing English polyphony, spacious harmonies and finely abrasive dissonances. Hubert Parry got inspired by the intense longing for peace in a 17th century poem, while John Tavener and James MacMillan provide food for thought in Song for Athene and Who shall separate us? - renowned through funerals within the English royal family. Ragnarsson and Uusberg show how one deals with death in Iceland and Estonia. But how to sing about death if you don't also sing about life? The antidote is in disarming, witty children's songs by Edvard Grieg and John Rutter.
