Polysemía Ensemble - Hidden Madrigals
Musical high flyers
Two musical high flyers from the Low Countries: Jacob Arcadelt and Cipriano de Rore. Composers like her renewed music history by expressing passionate, sensual verses by late medieval Italian poets in masterful polyphony. A new genre was born: the madrigal.
Journey of discovery
Soon, no social event in the 16th century passed without madrigals being sung. Social life was filled with poetry and music, with voices and instruments. The Polysemía Ensemble performs rarely performed madrigals. Each madrigal is an artistic journey of discovery: from the playful play between 3 voices, the solid harmony of 4, to the moving coherence of five-part compositions. The music is central, but the ensemble frames it with the poetry that inspired the music. The musicians invite the audience to fathom the hidden meaning in each verse.
