Flemish psychiatrist Dirk De Wachter was confronted with the diagnosis of colon cancer in 2021. The comfort he received in his most vulnerable moments, fighting for his life, made this a period full of meaning. He wrote down his experiences in Consolations , hoping to be the comfort for others that had been so healing for him.

In consultation with chamber music ensemble Het Collectief, Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps was chosen as the accompanying music. This piece, based on the Revelations of John, expresses the end times, but offers comfort in the hymns to the eternity and immortality of Jesus.
