The Human Machine

Artists Fritzler and Yotsumoto have won several awards and are among the top percussion soloists in Germany. In this program they present music that makes them play together like cogs in a machine. But there are other forces at play. Emotions arise; humanity comes to watch during this technical feat of ensemble playing.

Percussion duo Thomas Fritzler & Miyaka Yotsumoto

In the line-up with two percussionists, a total work of art is created that combines virtuoso instrumental techniques, music theatre, electronics and body percussion. The result is a contrasting alternation between humorous pantomime, robotic movements, heated dialogues and warm, inviting sounds.

Thomas and Miyaka:

" The Human Machine is a coherent and compelling concert of approximately one hour. Our program explores the tension between functioning in a ruthless society and embracing personal individuality. Emotional outbursts, isolation, reconciliation, friction and harmony merge into an intense experience.

We reinterpret well-known works and weave them into a story told through the music. Compositions by artists such as Casey Cangelosi, Ivan Trevino and Georges Aperghis come to life on a wide range of percussion instruments - from small and large drums, a tambourine and various bells to a vibraphone and the merging sounds of a marimba."
