Anselm Kiefer - Sag mir wo die Blumen sind (Stedelijk Museum)
The artist will be given a podium of honor in a place that is strongly connected to his artistic development. From his youth, Kiefer has had a special bond with the work of Vincent van Gogh. He also has a long, personal history with the Stedelijk. The museum purchased and exhibited his work from the beginning, which has been important in his career.

Crowd favorites and never-before-seen work
The exhibition includes many crowd-pleasers: at the Van Gogh Museum, famous works by Vincent van Gogh are combined with those of Kiefer. At the Stedelijk, all the Kiefers from the Stedelijk collection are on display together for the first time, including the beloved Innenraum. New, previously unseen work by the artist will be on display at both locations.
Tell me where the flowers are
The title of the exhibition comes from the song Where Have All the Flowers Gone. This is an anti-war song from 1955 by the American folk singer and activist Pete Seeger. It is the title of a new and large spatial work by Anselm Kiefer: an installation that will be on display around the historical staircase of the Stedelijk. Furthermore, the flowers in the title refer to Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers (1889) and to the landscapes that Kiefer recently made and that are shown for the first time in the exhibition.
