Photography Through the Lens of AI
Foam is pleased to announce the multi-dimensional initiative Photography Through the Lens of AI, which highlights the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in photography. AI has a major impact on the world of photography and the way we create and view images. The initiative consists of the group exhibition Missing Mirror and a solo exhibition by Paolo Cirio – AI Attacks.

Photography Through the Lens of AI
Since the invention of photography in the 19th century, the technology of the medium has constantly evolved. Image manipulation has always been a part of photography, from ingenious techniques in the darkroom to the magic of programs such as Photoshop. The latest development, AI, makes it easier than ever before to create images that appear astonishingly 'real', but are actually completely disconnected from reality. In Photography Through the Lens of AI, Foam explores how recent developments in the field of AI influence our relationship with images, ourselves and our perception of reality. As a photography museum, Foam continues long-term research into new definitions of photography with this initiative.
In addition to the group exhibition, there is a solo exhibition by Paolo Cirio. The AI Attacks exhibition focuses on the social implications of AI systems, AI models for machine learning and the use of data. Cirio's work provides insight into the way AI is abused by (government) agencies. He encourages the general public to think about these developments and offers a critical perspective on the potential abuse of power in public space, especially in terms of image and identity. Cirio's work emphasizes that humans have shaped AI and implemented these innovations, often without being fully aware of the risks.
This solo exhibition builds on the thematic group exhibition Missing Mirror and new work will premiere in Cirio's solo exhibition.
