SHEBANG Amsterdam 750: Charl Landvreugd
SHEBANG, an art lab in Amstel III (future Bijlmer-West), launches Issue 5 in line with Amsterdam 750: 'A New Map'. Under the guidance of guest curator Charl Landvreugd, alternative future narratives will be explored and shared with the public. During three events in January, February, and March 2025, artists and collectives will present their contributions to the evolving Tembe installation inspired by the nine districts of Amsterdam. SHEBANG provides a platform for interdisciplinary creators to shape the city of the future collectively.

SHEBANG Issue 5 by Charl Landvreugd
SHEBANG Issue 5 ties into the Amsterdam 750 celebration, exploring the future of the city. The theme is "A New Map"—how will Amsterdam evolve, and how can we shape that future together? Curator Charl Landvreugd collaborates with artists and the public to create alternative future narratives. Inspiration is drawn from Afro-futurism, which imagines future possibilities through African cultural and social perspectives. These alternative visions provide a hopeful outlook in contrast to the often bleak predictions related to issues like climate change.
Movt nr. 10: Worlding
In this project, Landvreugd reimagines the map of Amsterdam, creating a "Tembe" figure where each part of the installation represents one of the city’s districts. Different artists are invited to contribute works that focus on sensory experiences, filling these sections with their unique interpretations. The installation will be showcased in three public events taking place in January, February, and March 2025.
What is SHEBANG?
SHEBANG is a creative hub in Amsterdam Zuidoost, founded by Bijlmer Parktheater, CBK Zuidoost, and Imagine IC. It serves as a space for artists and thinkers to collaborate and explore both local and global developments through visual art, performing arts, and cultural heritage. By merging artistic and non-artistic disciplines, SHEBANG aims to foster cultural growth in the area and explore new visions for the future, creating opportunities for dialogue between creators and the community.
