Amsterdam 3hoog achter (third-floor apartment in the back)
Artist Jet Nijkamp cycled through all of Amsterdam, visiting people’s homes to draw their views of trees and record the stories behind them. Now, 50 of these drawings are part of an exhibition featuring poetry performances, consultations with tree experts, and the launch of a book about the entire project. This exhibition, which is a tribute to Amsterdam as a city of trees, will run from 4 to 20 April 2025.

Hidden Tree Stories of Amsterdam: A Time Document in Images and Words
Residents share the stories behind their views of trees, like the poplar struck by lightning or the chestnut tree with inedible fruits. In celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary as a "city of trees," artist Jet Nijkamp captures these tree views from various homes across Amsterdam and Weesp. Whether from a houseboat, a Bijlmer flat, social housing, or a canal house, her message is clear: for a liveable city, everyone should have a view of a tree, regardless of their type of home.
Five of these tree views have been adorned with poems by resident poets. Three municipal tree experts will be available to answer residents' questions. A publication will preserve the entire project as a lasting document of these unique stories.
