The exhibition

The exhibition includes ten large (multimedia) installations. While in residence at the Thami Mnyele Foundation, she created a new work and a life-size version of an earlier work: Teduki Nobo, which depicts the Antillean flag.

Sharelly Emanuelson

Sharelly Emanuelson, winner of the Charlotte Köhler Prize (2020) and the Volkskrant Visual Arts Audience Award (2020), among others, reflects the Caribbean's sense of life in her work - the warmth and the island feeling. At the same time, she exposes the underlying layer of the consequences of colonialism on the islands, effects that continue to reverberate today. She shows this through themes such as language, ecology, dance or movement, education, poverty, trade and tourism.

Emanuelson was born and lives in Curacao. She studied in the Netherlands and started her career as a film and documentary maker. After a few years, she decided to expand her art practice with other techniques because she felt she could not tell her whole story in film.
