The Districts Chess Tournament

The Districts Chess Tournament features teams from Nieuw West, West, Noord, Centrum, Oost, Zuid, Zuidoost, and the Weesp city area, using a double-elimination format. This knockout format ensures that losing teams always have a second chance. Each round has a time control of 10 minutes plus a 5-second increment, and there will be six rounds before the winner is determined.

Schedule

The opening ceremony starts at 11:00 AM, with the prize ceremony at 4:00 PM. The grand prize is a public chess table worth €3,500, to be placed in a location of the winning district's choice (in consultation with the district). The names of the winning team members will be engraved on this chess table.

Participants

Each district team has 32 participants, reflecting various age groups and ensuring diversity. Teams must include members from six age groups: primary school (lower and upper grades), secondary school, students (MBO, HBO, and university), adults (up to 55 years), and seniors (55+ years).

Additionally, each team must have at least four people with a migration background, four homeless individuals, four women, and a maximum of 10 club chess players. In total, 256 chess players from eight districts will participate. The ratios may vary slightly but will be consistent across all-district teams.
