You can also join the Buurtkantine XL from early morning until late evening for a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also go to Groenmarkt, a pop-up shop in the wild urban garden of MidWest, where you can buy 100% poison-free, organic plants. Do you feel like rolling up your green sleeves right away? Then, take a walk with the Cleanest Streets of Amsterdam-West to pick up litter. The evening ends with a musical highlight by the great saxophonist Ties Mellema.

Groenmarkt

At the green market, you will find garden plants that are not harmful to insects or soil life. Tip: buy the Amsterdam Native Plant Package here for €10. This consists of three native plants that contribute to biodiversity. They were grown without poison or fertilizer in Amsterdam by three organic city nurseries: Noorderbloemen, De Tuinakker and Wiering.

Neighborhood Canteen XL

Every week on Friday evenings, the neighbourhood around MidWest comes together during the Buurtkantine (Neighborhood Canteen). A local resident cooks, brings his neighbours and friends along and meets new people at the long table in MidWest. In 2023, 32 chefs cooked for 1,278 local residents during 36 Neighbourhood Canteens.

During 24 hours West, the Neighborhood Canteen is open from 10:00 to 20:00. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. Turning Tables and the AZC Westelijk Havengebied (the Galaxy Boat) cook and eat along. This way, you'll share food and stories with each other, together at a long table. A donation is requested for the food.

Litter picking

More and more Amsterdam residents are not only complaining about litter but are also rolling up their sleeves. They adopt waste containers and tackle litter with a neighbourhood team using prods. In Amsterdam West, several streets are active with a Cleanest Street Team. Walk with them through the West district during 24 Hours West! Three birds with one stone: meeting nice new people, exercising and a cleaner city.

Practical information:

The activities that take place here are all separate and, therefore, take place at the same time.
The Groenmarkt can be visited from 10:00 to 17:00 and is open to the public.
The Neighborhood Canteen XL can be visited from 10:00 to 22:00 on a walk-in basis but has limited capacity.
The litter picking starts at 12:00 and ends at 16:00, so please be on time.
