Opening concert Saariaho Festival
Asko|Schnberg immediately sets a beginning and an end point in the opening concert of the Saariaho Festival. Graal théâtre for violin and ensemble from 1994 was one of Saariaho's first successful works and the trumpet concerto HUSH from 2023 is her swan song. The concerto written for jazz trumpeter Verneri Pohjola can be seen as a journey through her life. A penetrating work that makes an even greater impression in this ensemble version. Performers are Asko|Schnberg, Verneri Pohjola + Joseph Puglia

Kaija Saariaho's swan song
'Each concert is a portrait of the person for whom it was written', Kaija Saariaho said about HUSH . Graal théâtre , her first concert, is such a portrait, written for Gidon Kremer. In the meantime, Asko|Schönberg and violinist Joseph Puglia have played the work so often that it has become entirely their own. A nice detail: the important trumpet part in Graal thétre returns in HUSH , her last concert.
This concert will be broadcast live by the NTR on NPO Klassiek
