Through the language of dance, power structures are challenged and stereotypes are broken. At the end of 2020, Issam Zemmouri showed the performance as a work-in-progress during ZID's ExploreZ festival. The full performance premiered during the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2021. Now, ZID Theater is showing his performance again: HISTORIA Revisited!

About the performance

HISTORIA is a journey that stretches across the Mediterranean Sea between different cultures, languages ​​and civilizations. You will be taken on a personal quest for liberation through the past, present and future. Herein one finds an eternal struggle between the material and spiritual world.

Can I be myself? the traveler asks himself again and again. Confronted with the obstacles and rules that others always determine. Every step you take has direct consequences for the situations you find yourself in. In HISTORIA, time, place of action and situation follow each otherup rapidly. However, the main character goes through it like Odysseus, who constantly continues on his way and embarks on a new adventure.

About the performer

Issam Zemmouri is a choreographer and dancer with a unique style. By combining contemporary dance, physical expression and strong visual elements, he knows how to address sensitive subjects where words fail. With his unique physical and visual language, he manages to unexpectedly transform the space and the character into a new experience. He is a master at working with objects that repeatedly challenge the viewer's perception. Despite his visual impairment, which has developed over the years, he does everything possible to realize his ambitions.
