An evening with Noam Shuster-Eliassi

Micha on Noam Shuster-Eliassi: 'I've never seen Noam Shuster-Eliassi perform. I met this Israeli comedienne in Jaffa, the Palestinian town that is increasingly being taken over by Tel Aviv. Noam is not only a comedienne but also an activist. She grew up in Neve Shalom / Wāĥat as-Salām, a community where Jews and Palestinians try to raise their children together and in harmony. She performs in English, Arabic and Hebrew. The documentary Coexistence, My Ass, about her recently premiered at Sundance. The now much-praised film will also be shown at IDFA. I want to talk to Noam about her comedy and activism. The two inevitably go hand in hand for her – although there is less and less to laugh about in Israel. When I flew back to the Netherlands from Israel last year, I mainly thought: What happens there, is also waiting for us. That's why I'm curious to hear what she has to say.'
