Micha Wertheim Festival: Triage - een gesprek over activisme en theater

In the week that Micha Wertheim premieres his new show 'Nowhere Else' at Frascati, he also presents a specially compiled fringe programme. A real festival with a selection of shows and activities that, according to him, absolutely deserve attention. This triage is one such example, in which Micha talks to Noah Shuster-Eliassi and Mark Thomas about the role of the artist. NB The end time mentioned is an indication.

Micha about this conversation: 'When can an artist no longer stand on the sidelines? More than once I have argued that it is the task of theatre makers to be amoral. Especially in a world where everything is political, a place must be fought for where you can develop dangerous thoughts, where you can follow your fantasy and where you as an audience are free to explore uncomfortable ideas without it having moral consequences. Abusing that place for activism did not seem like a good idea to me. Theatre makers have a duty not to be driven crazy by the desire to say something activist. A bit like a doctor who takes a vow to help every patient without first asking who it is and what that person stands for. Doctors should be amoral and just heal. But what if all hell breaks loose and not every patient can be helped? Then uncomfortable choices have to be made. That process of choosing and making compromises is called triage.'
