The Afro-European Sessions

The Afro-European Sessions is an invitation to explore the rich and complex Afro-European experience. How do you create a sense of home while balancing two cultures? This is the central question posed by the new VPRO documentary series The Afro-European, which also forms the multidisciplinary program of this event. Join us for an inspiring evening of interactive talks, film, art, a bookstore, music and food, curated by OSCAM, Omek, Bijlmer Bookstore and VPRO. Join us at the Bovenzaal or Kelder in Paradiso. 19:00 – Chapter 1: Stories of Home

Panel discussion and Q&A with Nigerian-British-Dutch and host of the Afro-European series Ikenna Azuike, Caribbean-Dutch film director Soraya Pol. Moderated by Rwandan-Dutch author Munganyende. And a special performance to be announced soon.

20:30 – Interlude

Visit the exhibition, check the book corner, enjoy delicious food and connect with other attendees while enjoying a diasporic musical journey by Ghanaan-Dutch YŮSU.

21:00 – Chapter 2: Stories of Expression

Panel discussion and Q&A with actor and storyteller Ghanean-Dutch Akwasi, Nigerian-Dutch photographer Coco Olakunle and Eritrean-Dutch city counselor Milka Yemane. Moderated by Guinean-American Kemo Camara, founder of Omek. 22:00 – Explore, network and dance to great music by YŮSU.
