Long ago, but simultaneously in the here and now, there lived a man who wrongly believed himself to be above others. The Sages of the Great Beyond decided to teach him a lesson. They expelled him from his village and sent him on a wandering journey across the earth, to find his humility again.

Part of his journey

In We Are Who We Are we follow part of his journey, where he spends time with Hungarian Roma. Through songs and stories he learns to see his place in the world again and discovers that in the grand scheme of life no person is truly above or below another. Storyteller Chidi Ebere, author of the award-winning novel Now I Am Here , and the young Roma band Ham Ko Ham bring this story to life with a magical interplay of words and music.

The performance We Are Who We Are takes place in Podium Mozïek as part of the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival. We Are Who We Are is made possible by Muziekgebouw Productiehuis, which offers a new generation of musicians and makers space to develop new artistic projects.
