Yet Another Day In Paradise - Lukas Karvelis

'Yet Another Day in Paradise' is a contemporary dance performance that explores how the past influences our current relationships. The two protagonists search for their own niche while being dependent on each other. Entwined in a close embrace, they try to keep their balance on one skateboard. Moving in an endless circle, they experience both acceptance and rejection. Their movements reflect the resilience of the human spirit and offer a poignant look at the complexity of intimacy and the eternal search for connection.

About Lukas Karvelis

Lukas Karvelis (1997) is a Lithuanian dance artist who currently lives in Amsterdam. After graduating from Codarts in 2019 with a Jiri Kylian Foundation scholarship, he started collaborating with the Royal Danish Theater, Münchner Kammerspiele, Dansatelier's crew and Korzo Theater.

In his artistic work, Karvelis strives to find that crucial point where change occurs in the body as it moves away from trauma within society and itself. This leads to research based on movement with a curiosity about the past. He currently links this exploration of movement to the social phenomenon of addiction, which relates to body and mind. In addition to his work as a performer and choreographer, Karvelis has developed a movement exploration practice that explores the movement of free fall, challenging the mover to feel the freedom from gravity to find weightlessness.

In the prizes

His choreographic work has earned him residencies at Atelier de Paris/ CDCN, the Arts Printing House, Cetro Coreografico Gomera, and Teatri Di Vita, among others. Karvelis was nominated for the Piket Art Prize in 2020 and received the Young Artist Award from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in 2023.

This performance is part of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival.
