Wojciech Grudziński in co-production with Frascati Producties - Bow a study

Bowing usually takes place in a theater. The audience applauds in gratitude for the players, who respond with a bow. In dance there is a gray area between the performance and the bow; there is a transition from one form of movement to another. What exactly happens at the moment of the bow? Who does it really serve? Please note: the stated end time is an indication.

Who bends and determines the direction of the game?

Bow a study is part of Wojciech Grudziński's long-term research into the phenomenon of 'bowing', with the choreographic and social dimensions that lie behind it. With a touch of melancholy, the performance highlights a specific view of classical ballet in Eastern and Central Europe that emerges from the post-communist new order, dominated by power, bravado and a neoliberal economy.

With his artistic team, Wojciech researched a series of grand inflections from dance history, with specific attention to the dubious, indefinable moments. In Bow a study this comes together in a choreography of dancers, canvases, samples and memories, both existing and invented. Where both the audience and the theater are invited into a playful dialogue about hierarchy, vulnerability and gratitude. Who dominates? Who submits?
