Growy, Amsterdam’s own vertical farm, has won the 2024 Vertical Farming World Awards. Out of eleven categories, Growy secured the award for Best Farm Innovation

To operate the first large-scale vertical farm in the Netherlands, top-spec facilities are a necessity, and Growy has an extensive agricultural infrastructure. Their growing space, featuring 12 columns, cultivates 60 different crops, producing 450,000 kilos of microgreens, as well as herbs for a leading supermarket chain. Their mission is to provide local and affordable food for everyone.

Growy's new 7,500m² vertical farm, located at CTPark Amsterdam, is designed to revolutionise the way food is grown and distributed in urban areas. Operating entirely on automation, Growy ensures seamless integration throughout their processes, covering everything from seeding to packaging.

Their advanced robotics incorporates software for managing operations, as well as collecting data which analyses plants to refine growth strategies. Growy works closely with lead institutions like Wageningen University and their research team are continuing to finding new and improved ways to extend shelf life, reduce cost and improve crop yields with the goal to deliver affordable and sustainable nutrition.

Growy's recent success is part of a broader movement in Amsterdam, which is strengthening the region's status as a hub for food tech and sustainable agriculture. Like Growy, other Amsterdam companies are addressing the challenges in food security and working to revolutionise food production. Companies like Karma Kebab who produce plant-based kebab, and Protix, who specialise in insect-based protein, are similarly contributing to the city’s reputation for pioneering solutions to global food security challenges.

With its new facility at CTPark Amsterdam and the Best Farm Innovation Award in hand, Growy is redefining what’s possible in urban agriculture and setting a new standard for food production.
